Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle, if necessary.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the engine oil level indicator and tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  5. Remove the engine oil cooler line bracket.
  6. Remove the oil pan bolts from the engine block.
  7. Remove the oil pan from the engine block.

  9. Remove the rear oil seal.
  10. Clean all of the oil and the grease from the sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the oil pan rear oil seal to the engine block.
  2. Apply a 5 mm (3/16 in) bead of RTV sealant GM P/N 1052915 or an equivalent to the oil pan sealing surface.
  3. Apply the sealant inboard of the bolt holes.

    Ensure that the sealer is wet to the touch when the oil pan is installed.

  4. Install the oil pan to the engine.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the oil pan bolts.
  7. Tighten

        • Tighten the two rear bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
        • Tighten all of the other bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
  8. If the oil cooler lines were disconnected from the quick connector or the block, use a new fastener clip when reconnecting the oil cooler lines.
  9. Lower the vehicle, if necessary.
  10. Install the engine oil level indicator and tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  11. Connect the battery negative cables to the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Refill the oil pan with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
