Removal Procedure

Caution: Replace the O-ring seals exposed during component service in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak.

Notice: Use care in removing the fuel injectors in order to prevent damage to the fuel injector electrical connector pins or the fuel injector nozzles. Do not immerse the fuel injector in any type of cleaner. The fuel injector is an electrical component and may be damaged by this cleaning method.

Important: Service each fuel injector as a complete assembly only.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Loosen the filler cap in order to relieve the fuel tank pressure.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly, the extension, and the gasket.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors.
  5. Remove the fuel meter body cover attaching screw assemblies.
  6. Remove the fuel meter body cover. Do not try to remove the fuel meter body cover seal.

  7. Object Number: 318112 Size: SH
  8. Remove both injectors (1). Use a fulcrum (3) between the screwdriver blade (2) and the fuel meter body assembly (4). Carefully pry up under the ridge opposite the connector end.

  9. Object Number: 318114 Size: SH
  10. Remove the lower (small) O-rings (3) from nozzle of injectors (1).
  11. Remove the upper (large) O-rings (4).
  12. Discard the O-rings.

  13. Inspect each injector for a part number. Replace each with an injector having the same part number.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the new lower and upper O-rings with an engine oil.

  2. Object Number: 318114 Size: SH
  3. Push the small O-ring (3) on the nozzle end of the injector until it is against the fuel filter.
  4. Install the upper O-ring (2) over the injector.
  5. Install each injector (1) in the fuel meter body cavity. Push down until it is fully seated, with the electrical connector end facing generally at a right angle to the throttle shaft.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the fuel meter body cover.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the fuel meter body cover attaching screw assemblies to 3.2 N·m (28 lb in).

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. With engine OFF and the ignition ON, check for fuel leaks.
  11. Install the gasket, the extension, and the air cleaner.
