A fuel system pressure test is part of several of the diagnostic tables and symptom checks. In order to perform this test, follow this procedure:

  1. Turn the engine OFF and relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Uncouple fuel supply flexible hose in engine compartment. Install the fuel pressure gauge J 29658-D update kit between steel line and flexible hose.
  3. Tighten the gauge in line in order to ensure no leaks occur during testing.
  4. Connect the negative battery terminal.
  5. Start the engine and observe the fuel pressure reading. It should be 179-220 kPa (26-32 psi). If not, refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .
  6. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  7. Remove the fuel pressure gauge.
  8. Install new O-ring on fuel feed line.
  9. Reinstall the fuel line.
  10. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  11. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  12. Install the air cleaner with a new gasket.
