Removal Procedure

Caution: Replace the O-ring seals exposed during component service in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove the negative battery terminal.
  2. Loosen the filler cap in order to relieve the fuel tank pressure.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly, the extension, and the gasket.
  4. Remove the electrical connectors to the injectors.
  5. Remove the fuel meter body cover and the fuel injectors.
  6. Remove the fuel feed and outlet return lines.
  7. Remove the fuel line O-rings.
  8. Discard the O-rings.

  9. Remove the fuel inlet nut and the two O-rings, the fuel outlet fitting, and the gasket from the fuel meter body assembly.
  10. Discard the O-rings and the gasket.

  11. Remove the fuel meter body to the throttle body attaching screws.
  12. Remove the fuel meter body.
  13. Remove the gasket from throttle body.
  14. Discard the gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new throttle body to the fuel meter body gasket.
  2. Install the fuel meter body assembly on the throttle body assembly.
  3. Install the fuel meter body to throttle body attaching screws coated with appropriate thread-locking compound.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the fuel meter body attaching screws to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fuel inlet nut and two O-rings, the fuel outlet fitting, and the gasket.
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten the inlet fitting to 41.0 N·m (30 lb ft).
        • Tighten the outlet fitting to 41.0 N·m (30 lb ft).
  7. Install the new O-rings on the fuel feed and return lines.
  8. Install the fuel lines.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the fuel line nuts to 27.0 N·m (20 lb ft) using a backup wrench on the TBI fuel fittings to prevent them from turning.

  10. Connect the electrical connectors to the injectors.
  11. Connect the negative battery terminal.
  12. With engine OFF and ignition ON, check for the fuel leaks.
  13. Install the gasket, the extension, and the air cleaner assembly.
