Results Of Incorrect Operation
• | The following items can cause hesitation during warm-up: |
- | A missing or a damaged air cleaner to the TBI gasket |
- | A loose air cleaner cover and air cleaner |
- | A missing air cleaner cover seal |
- | A damper door not closed |
• | A damper door which does not open to the outside air can cause
a lack of power, sluggish, or spongy (on a hot engine). |
Air Cleaner Functional Check
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Cool the assembly to below 4°C
(40°F). The damper door should be closed to outside air (cold air).
- Check for the presence and the condition of the air cleaner to
throttle body gasket.
- Reinstall the air cleaner assembly. The heat stove tube should
connect at the air cleaner snorkel and the exhaust manifold.
- Start the engine. Watch the damper door in the air cleaner snorkel.
As the air cleaner warms up, the damper door should open slowly to outside
air (cold air).
- If the air cleaner fails to operate as described, the calibrated
spring should be properly installed and that the damper is not binding. If
the spring and damper are OK, replace the air cleaner/wax pellet actuator
assembly.
