Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Center Bearing, Full Yoke

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 198506  Size: SH
  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  5. Remove the propeller shaft bolts from the Yoke Flange (8 nuts) mounting.
  6. Remove the center bearing assembly from the cross member. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 198535  Size: SH
  8. Remove the three-piece propeller shaft with tandem axle mounting.

  9. Object Number: 198604  Size: MH
  10. Remove the propeller shaft 16N, 17N, 18N, 1710 or 1760 series with center bearing and full round end yoke.

Installation Procedure

  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  2. Object Number: 198604  Size: MH
  3. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .

  4. Object Number: 198535  Size: SH
  5. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (8 nuts) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install and tighten the propeller shaft full round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the center bearing mounting bolts to 71 N·m (52 lb ft).

  9. Install the rear propeller shaft to the center bearing assembly.

  11. Install the center bearing assembly to the cross frame. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .
  12. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  13. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  14. Remove the wheel blocks.

Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Center Bearing, Half Yoke

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 198510  Size: SH
  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  5. Remove the propeller shaft from the Yoke Flange (4 nuts) mounting.
  6. Remove the center bearing assembly from the cross member. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .

  8. Remove the three-piece propeller shaft with tandem axle mounting.

  9. Object Number: 198601  Size: MH
  10. Remove the propeller shaft 1480 or 1550 series with center bearing and full round or end yoke.

Installation Procedure

  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  2. Object Number: 198601  Size: MH
  3. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end.

  4. Object Number: 198555  Size: SH
  5. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (4 nuts) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.

  8. Tighten
    Tighten the center bearing mounting bolts to 71 N·m (52 lb ft).

  9. Install the rear propeller shaft to the center bearing universal joint, if equipped. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .
  10. Install the center bearing assembly to the cross frame. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .
  11. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  12. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  13. Remove the wheel blocks.

Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Inboard Slip Joint, Full Yoke

Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  5. Remove the propeller shaft bolts from the Yoke Flange (8 nuts) mounting.

  7. Remove the three-piece propeller shaft with tandem axle mounting.

  8. Object Number: 198610  Size: MH
  9. Remove the propeller shaft 16N, 17N, 18N, 1710 or 1760 series with inboard slip joint and full round end yoke.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the universal joints to the propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
  2. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  4. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .

  5. Object Number: 198535  Size: SH
  6. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (8 nuts) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.

  9. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .

  13. Remove the wheel blocks.

Removal Procedure

  10. Remove the center bearing assembly from the cross member. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  3. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .

  4. Object Number: 198535  Size: SH
  5. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (4 nuts) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.
  6. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .

  8. Install and tighten the propeller shaft flange yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

  10. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  11. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  12. Remove the wheel blocks.

Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Outboard Slip Joint, Half

Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  5. Remove the propeller shaft from the 305 mm (12  in) brake drum.

  7. Remove the three-piece propeller shaft with tandem axle mounting.

  8. Object Number: 198622  Size: MH
  9. Remove the propeller shaft 1480 or 1550 series with outboard slip joint and half round end yoke.
  10. Remove the center bearing assembly from the cross member. Refer to Center Bearing Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  3. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to theinstalled propeller shaft splined end. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .

  4. Object Number: 198535  Size: SH
  5. Install the front propeller shaft to the 305 mm (9 in) brake drum. Keep the alignment marks together.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
