Action

Under-inflated tires

Inflate the tires to the specified pressure. Refer to Tire Inflation Description .

The steering wheel is rubbing against the steering column cover

Adjust the steering column cover.

Tight or frozen steering shaft bearings

Replace the bearings.

Binding in the steering linkage

Replace the affected parts.

Misalignment of the steering gear to the column

Align the steering column.

The tie rod pivots are not centralized

Adjust the tie rod end in order to center the pivots.

Inadequate lubrication in the suspension joints and the steering linkage

Lubricate the suspension joints and the steering linkage. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in Maintenance and Lubrication.

Stuck or plugged steering gear valve spool

Remove and clean or replace the steering gear valve.

A rubber spacer is binding in the shift tube.

Ensure that the spacer is properly seated. Lubricate the inside diameter with a silicone lubricant.

Improper front wheel alignment

Inspect the alignment. Realign the front wheels as necessary. Refer to Front Caster Adjustment or Front Camber Adjustment or Front Toe Adjustment .

The steering gear is adjusted too tightly

Adjust the over-center and thrust bearing preload to specifications.

A kink in the return hose

Replace the return hose.
