One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Inboard Flange/229

Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.

  5. Object Number: 198510  Size: SH
  6. Remove the propeller shaft mounting from the 229 mm (9 in) brake drum.

  7. Object Number: 198617  Size: MH
  8. Remove the propeller shaft 1480 or 1550 series with inboard slip joint and flange yoke.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 198617  Size: MH
  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
  2. Install the slip yoke assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end.

  3. Object Number: 198510  Size: SH
  4. Install the front propeller shaft to the 229 mm (9 in) brake drum. Keep the alignment marks together.
  5. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install and tighten the propeller shaft inboard slip joint and yoke flange yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  8. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  9. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  10. Remove the wheel blocks.

One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Inboard Flange/305

Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.

  6. Remove the propeller shaft mounting from the Yoke Flange (8 nuts) mounting.

  8. Remove the propeller shaft 1480 or 1550 series with inboard slip joint and flange yoke.

Installation Procedure

  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
  2. Install the slip yoke to the installed propeller shaft splined end.

  4. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (8 nuts) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.
  5. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .

  10. Remove the wheel blocks.

Removal Procedure

Installation Procedure

  1. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.

  3. Install the slip yoke to the installed propeller shaft splined end.

  4. Object Number: 198510  Size: SH
  5. Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (4 nuts) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.

  10. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment .
  11. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  12. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  13. Remove the wheel blocks.

Removal Procedure

  6. Keep the alignment marks together.

  8. Install the rear propeller shaft to the universal joints.
  9. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
  10. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  11. Rmove the wheel blocks.

One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Outboard Slip/229

Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
