Wheel Hop, Vehicle Vibration, and Rough Steering - Demountable Rims

    • An out-of-balance rim and/or cast wheel, tire, or hub-and-drum assembly
    • Improper mounting of the rim to the cast wheel
    • Loose or worn driveline or suspension components
    • Improper positioning of the lock-ring split
    • Rim chording may result from improper torque sequence and amount of torque. As the clamps are tightened, flat sides are formed on the rim where the rim clamps exert pressure. This forces the rim to become out-of-round. Replace chorded rims.
    • Determine which is the out-of-balance component. Balance the component or replace the component.
    • Assemble with the ring split opposite the valve opening (180°). This will improve the balance.
    • Identify the location of the vibration. Vibration may be transmitted through the frame. This causes a rear end vibration to give the impression of coming from the front. Repair or replace loose or worn components.

Wheel Hop, Vehicle Vibration, and Rough Steering - Disc Wheels

    • Rocks and debris wedged between dual disc wheels
    • An out-of-balance tire and/or hub and drum/rotor assembly
    • Improper positioning of the lock-ring split
    • Loose or worn driveline or suspension components
    • Remove the rocks and debris.
    • Determine the out-of-balance component. Balance the component or replace the component.
    • Assemble with the ring split opposite the valve opening (180°). This will improve the balance
    • Identify the location of the vibration. Vibration may be transmitted through the frame. This causes a rear end vibration to give the impression of coming from the front. Repair or replace loose or worn components.

Wobble, Vehicle Vibration, and Rough Steering - Demountable Rims

    • Excessive lateral runout
    • Loose or improper attaching parts
    • Worn or distorted spacers
    • Overloading or unbalanced loads
    • An improperly installed rim
    • Improper alignment
    • Loose, worn, or broken suspension components
    • Tighten the parts or replace the parts.
    • Replace the spacers.
    • Inspect the tire and the rim specifications for work load constraints.
    • Properly position the clamps. Torque the wheel nuts.
    • Align the wheels. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications
    • Repair the components or replace the components.

Wobble, Vehicle Vibration, and Rough Steering - Disc Wheels

    •  A bent or distorted disc from overloading or improper handling
        Loose mountings
    • Damaged studs or wheel nuts
    • Enlarged stud holes
    • Worn or broken hub face
    • Foreign material on the mounting surfaces
    • Improper alignment
    • Loose, worn, or broken suspension components
    • Replace the wheel.
    • Replace the worn or damaged components.
    • Align the wheels. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications
    • Repair the components or replace the components.
