Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable
from the battery. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
• | in Automatic Transmissions/ Transaxle. |
- When removing the crankshaft rear oil seal from the cylinder block
be careful not to nick the crankshaft sealing surface.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the engine block.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
J 38841 Rear Oil
Seal Installer-7.4L
- Install the crankshaft rear
oil seal as follows:
• | Lubricate the inner and outer diameter of the crankshaft rear
oil seal with clean engine oil. |
• | Use the J 38841
to
install the crankshaft rear oil seal on the crankshaft. |
• | Remove the J 38841
from the crankshaft. |
- Install the flywheel to the crankshaft. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
- Install the transmission to the engine block.
- Lower the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Connect the battery negative cables to the battery. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
in Engine
Electrical.
