Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 64529 Size: SH
  1. Install the upper intake manifold gaskets.
  2. Important: Failure to follow the procedure listed, could cause a driveability problem.

  3. Install the upper intake manifold.
  4. Coat a minimum of eight threads of the bolts with thread locking sealant.

  5. Object Number: 67778 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the upper intake manifold bolts.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the bolts in the following manner:

4.1. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 8 N·m (72 lb in).
4.2. Re tighten the bolts in sequence to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).
  8. Install the EGR valve if necessary. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.

  9. Object Number: 173284 Size: SH
  10. Install the EGR pipe to the upper intake manifold.
  11. Tighten
Tighten EGR valve fittings to 60 N·m (46 lb ft).

  12. Install Left and Right Side Secondary AIR Injection Pipes. If so equipped.
  13. Install the EVAP canister solenoid valve to the intake manifold. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement in Engine Controls.
  14. Install the throttle body to the upper intake manifold. Refer to Throttle Body Installation in Engine Controls.

  15. Object Number: 173187 Size: SH
  16. Install the PCV valve to the valve rocker arm cover to the cylinder head.

  17. Object Number: 173189 Size: SH
  18. Install the crankcase vent tube to the valve rocker arm cover.

  19. Object Number: 198949 Size: SH
  20. Install the air cleaner resonator to the throttle body.
  21. Install the intake air intake duct (1) to the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-7.4L.
  22. Connect the battery negative cables to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
