Removal Procedure

    Important: If replacing the manual transmission engine flywheel, note the location of any existing balance weights (if applicable). Install NEW balance weights into the new engine flywheel (if applicable). Engine flywheel balance weights must be installed into the new engine flywheel in the same locations as the old engine flywheel. A properly installed balance weight will be either flush or below flush with the face of the engine flywheel.

  1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
  4. • For manual transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmissions.
    • For automatic transmissions. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmissions,
  5. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
  6. Remove any burrs from the end of the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.

  2. Object Number: 64554  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the flywheel mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 90 N·m (65 lb ft).

  5. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 90 N·m (65 lb ft).

  7. Install the transmission to the vehicle.
  8. • For manual transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmissions.
    • For automatic transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmissions.
  9. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
