Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 38425 Fan Hub Wrench
    • J 38426 Pulley Strap Wrench
  1. Remove the front wheelhouse panel.

  2. Object Number: 198949  Size: SH
  3. Remove the intake air duct (1) from the air filter housing.
  4. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement .
  5. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  6. Remove the upper radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement .
  7. Remove the coolant reservoir or the surge tank, as equipped. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement , or Surge Tank (Diesel) Replacement .
  8. Remove the surge tank mounting bracket, if equipped. Refer to Surge Tank (Diesel) Replacement .
  9. Remove the automatic transmission oil cooler lines, if equipped.
  10. Remove the engine oil cooler lines, if equipped. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement .
  11. Remove the lower radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement .
  12. Remove the heater hose.
  13. Remove the fan shroud bolts.

  15. Remove the fan shroud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 198961  Size: SH
  1. Install the fan shroud.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the fan shroud bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fan shroud bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Install the heater hose.
  6. Install the lower radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement .
  7. Install the engine oil cooler lines, if equipped. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement .
  8. Install the automatic transmission oil cooler lines, if equipped.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission cooler line fitting to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  10. Install the surge tank mounting bracket, if equipped. Refer to Surge Tank (Diesel) Replacement .
  11. Install the coolant recovery or the surge tank, as equipped.
  12. Install the upper radiator hose.
  13. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement .

  15. Install the front intake air duct (1) to the air filter housing.
  16. Install the front wheelhouse panel.
  17. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
