Coolant Level Sensor Replacement L21/LP4

1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.



2. Remove the coolant sensor from the radiator side tank (1).
3. Catch any spilled coolant in a suitable container.

1. Apply thread sealer to the threads of the new coolant sensor (2).
2. Install the coolant sensor into the radiator side tank (1).
3. Connect the electrical connector to the coolant sensor.
4. Fill the engine coolant to the proper level. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.



2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the probe.

Caution: Before removing the low coolant probe, make sure the engine is cold and the pressure in the cooling system has been released. When removing the low coolant probe from the surge tank, use a drain pan to catch the fluid loss. Hot coolant can cause severe burns and personal injury.

3. Unplug the low coolant probe from the surge tank.

1. Apply a light coat of lubricant to the new coolant indicator probe.
2. Insert the new coolant probe into the surge tank.
3. Connect the electrical connector to the coolant probe.
4. Refill the engine coolant to the proper level. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in Maintenance and Lubrication.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
