Removal Procedure

Important: Valve rocker arm cover gaskets are reusable. Replace the valve rocker arm cover gasket only if damaged.

  1. Remove the intake air resonator.
  2. Remove the air cleaner intake duct (1) from the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  3. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plug. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  5. Remove the PVC valve from then valve rocker arm cover if necessary.

  6. Object Number: 173189  Size: SH
  7. Remove the engine vent tube from the throttle body if necessary.
  8. Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold if necessary. Refer to Throttle Body Removal in Engine Controls.

  9. Object Number: 279546  Size: SH
  10. Remove the ingition coil wiring harness from the ingition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  11. Twist the spark plug wire boot one half turn in order to release the boots.
  12. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  13. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  14. Remove the valve rocker arm cover from the cylinder head.
  15. Remove the valve rocker arm cover gasket from the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 351740  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker cover gasket to the cylinder head.
  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover to the cylinder head.
  3. Install the ingition coil wiring harness to the ingition coils.Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (72 lb in).

  8. Install the throttle body to the upper intake manifold. Refer to Throttle Body Installation in Engine Controls.

  10. Install the engine vent tube to the throttle body if necessary.

  11. Object Number: 173187  Size: SH
  12. Install the PVC valve to the valve rocker arm cover if necessary.
  13. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  14. Object Number: 198949  Size: SH
  15. Install the intake air resonator to the throttle body.
  16. Install the air cleaner intake duct (1). Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
