Removal Procedure

CAUTION:: Do not disassemble the actuator. Always service the actuator as a unit. The actuator contains a large spring under tension. Disassembling the actuator allows the spring to expand with great force, which can result in personal injury.

CAUTION:: If the actuator will not hold pressure, do not unthread the parking brake cable from the actuator piston. The cable is under tension and unthreading the cable will cause the cable to spring and can result in personal injury.

    Object Number: 199939 Size: SH
  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Release the brake.
  3. Position a drain pan in order to catch any fluid that will leak out. Do not reuse the old fluid.
  4. Loosen the jam nut on the actuator end of the cable.
  5. Remove the two-piece cable end fitting.
  6. Remove the travel switch electrical connector.
  7. Remove the travel switch from the actuator.
  8. Remove the hydraulic pipe.

  9. Object Number: 199935 Size: SH
  10. Remove the actuator mounting nuts and the washers.
  11. Remove the actuator.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 199935 Size: SH
  1. Install the actuator.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the actuator mounting nuts.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the actuator mounting nuts to 108 N·m (80 lb ft).

  5. Install the actuator washers.

  6. Object Number: 199932 Size: SH
  7. Install the hydraulic pipe.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the hydraulic pipe fitting to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Install the travel switch to the actuator.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the travel switch to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  11. Install the travel switch electrical connector.
  12. Install the parking brake cable end fitting.
  13. Tighten
Tighten the parking brake cable jam nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  14. Cycle the system.
  15. Check the system for any leaks.
  16. Check the fluid level. Refer to Checking and Adding Park Brake Fluid .
  17. Remove the wheel blocks.
