Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 376294 Size: SH
  1. Mount the steering column in a suitable holding fixture taking care not damage the column.
  2. Install the support bracket to the column
  3. Install the support mounting bolts in the following sequence:
  4. 3.1. Install bolt (5)

    3.3. Install bolt (4)
    3.4. Install bolt (3)

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Insure proper alignment.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the support mounting bolts to30 N·m (22 lb ft).

    Object Number: 306450 Size: MH
  7. Install the lower end of the steering column (6) through the dash opening.
  8. Guide the steering shaft into the pot joint.

       • Tighten the steering column lower fasteners before you tighten the steering column upper fasteners. Failure to do this can damage the steering column.
       • Tighten the steering column fasteners to the specified torque. Overtightening the upper steering column fasteners could affect the steering column collapse.

  11. Install the upper support bracket washers and nuts (4).
  12. Finger tighten the nuts.

  13. Install the lower bolts (3) and nut (1).

  14. Object Number: 306514 Size: SH
