Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 737573  Size: SH
  1. Remove the bolts (13). Discard the bolts.
  2. Remove the bearing straps (12), if equipped.
  3. Remove the cap bolts (2), if equipped. Discard the cap bolts.
  4. Remove the bearing assemblies (1), as required.
  5. Remove the journal (15) from the yoke (4).
  6. Remove the lubrication fitting (14).
  7. Clean the lubricant passages in the journal cross.
  8. Inspect the bearings for excessive looseness or brinelling. Replace the journal and the bearings if the bearings are worn, damaged or brinelled.
  9. Inspect the yokes for the following conditions:
  10. • Nicks
    • Burrs
    • Damaged threads
  11. Remove the nicks and burrs with a fine file or stone. Chase damaged threads with a bottoming tap.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the journal (15) into the yoke (4).
  2. Install the bearing assemblies (1), if required.
  3. Install the bearing straps (12), if equipped.
  4. Install the NEW bolts (13).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the NEW cap bolts (2), if equipped.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the NEW bolts to 71 N·m (52 lb ft).

  8. Install the NEW lubrication fitting (14).
  9. Apply lubricant through the NEW lubrication fitting. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in General Information.
