Removal Procedure

Notice: The EH pump operates on power steering fluid only. Do not service the EH pump in any brake servicing area. Be sure hands are clean of all brake fluid. Contamination can cause swelling and deterioration of rubber parts, brake damage, and the eventual loss of braking capability.

  1. Block the vehicle wheels.
  2. Remove the booster assembly. Refer to Power Brake Booster Replacement .
  3. Remove the pump mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the electrohydraulic pump.
  5. Remove the pump face seals. Discard the pump face seals.
  6. Remove the check ball and the retainer.

Installation Procedure

Important: The pump assembly can be incorrectly installed. Install the pump motor with the delivery port closest to the input push rod end of the booster housing. Ensure that the position of the inlet and return ports on the booster housing have the same relationship to the delivery and return of the pump motor. A check ball is visible in the delivery port of the pump motor. Do not mar the mating surface when installing the pump motor on the booster.

  1. Install the check ball and the retainer.
  2. Install the new pump face seals.
  3. Install the electrohydraulic pump.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the pump mounting bolts.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Install the booster assembly.
  8. Fill the power steering reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
  9. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding in Power Steering System.
  10. Inspect for proper brake operation.
  11. Remove the wheel blocks.
