Assembly Procedure

    Object Number: 299888 Size: SH
  1. Apply lithium grease to the exposed shaft engagement areas (1) and then install the lower steering shaft assembly (2).

    2. Object Number: 343889 Size: SH
  2. Install the steering shaft assembly.

    3. Object Number: 369115 Size: SH
  3. Install the lock plate (4).
  4. Install the steering column housing support assembly (3) with the dimmer switch rod (2) attached.

    5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the 4 support screws (1) .

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 8.8 N·m (77 lb in).

  6. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1).
  7. Lubricate and install the bearing assembly (2).
  8. Install the adapter and bearing retainer (3).
  9. Install the lower bearing adapter clip (4).
  10. Install the ignition switch assembly. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  11. Install the steering column housing assembly. Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
