Generator Bracket Replacement L18

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 742248  Size: SH
  1. Remove the fan clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L.
  3. Remove the wiring harness clip bolt.

  4. Object Number: 742051  Size: SH
  5. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  6. Remove the fan pulley bolts and pulley.

  7. Object Number: 742238  Size: SH
  8. Remove the generator bracket bolts and nuts.
  9. Remove the generator bracket from the stud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 742238  Size: SH
  1. Slide the generator bracket onto the stud.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the generator bracket bolts and nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator bracket bolts and nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  5. Install the fan pulley and bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fan pulley bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  7. Install the wiring harness clip bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the wiring harness clip bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  10. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L.
  11. Install the fan clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.

Generator Bracket Replacement LG5 w/o Belt Tensioner

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Negative Battery Cable in Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the drive belt.

  4. Loosen the generator mounting bottom bolt.
  5. Remove the generator mounting top bolt.
  6. Remove the generator adjusting bracket mounting bolts.
  7. Remove the generator adjusting bracket from the fan drive support assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the generator adjusting bracket to the fan drive support assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the generator adjusting bracket mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator adjusting bracket mounting bolts to 73 N·m (54 lb ft).

  5. Install the generator mounting top bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting top bolt to 88 N·m (65 lb ft).

  7. Install the generator mounting bottom bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bottom bolt to 71 N·m (52 lb ft).

  9. Install the drive belt.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Generator Bracket Replacement LG5 w/o A/C

Removal Procedure

Removal Procedure
