Some customers/dealers may comment on an intermittent engine no-crank condition with the clutch applied on the above-listed vehicles.
A pinched/damaged clutch position switch wire (1) at the base of the steering column may cause this condition. The main instrument panel (IP) electrical harness sweeps past a support brace at the base of the steering column. The edge of this brace is very sharp and the harness containing the clutch position wire can contact and rub against the brace. If the gray (GRA) clutch position wire, circuit number 379 (RPO L18) or 808 (RPO LG5) gets pinched and causes a short, the vehicle will experience a no-crank condition.
Verify the cause by inspecting the gray clutch position switch wire. If this wire is pinched and/or shows damage, use the following procedure to correct the condition. If this gray wire shows no damage, diagnose and locate other possible causes of the condition.
This change became effective in production on April 4, 2002.
