Outside Rearview Mirror Housings Come Loose From Base (Install J Hook)

Some customers may comment that the housing that surrounds the mirror has come loose from its base.

The retainer that holds the mirror housing to the base may have come loose.

1. Adjust the mirror glass all the way outward and down so you can access the retaining tabs in the next step.



2. Using a cotter pin puller, pull up the tangs (twelve) on the back side of the mirror. Refer to the illustration above.



3. Pull the wires toward you and insert the "J" hook through the hole in the base of the mirror behind the wire harness. Refer to the illustration above.



4. Install the "J" hook so that the hook is facing OUTWARD and the wiring fits within the slot. Refer to the illustration above.




Important: In this next step, the bottom of the mirrors not shown for illustration purposes.

5. Install the "J" hook so the end of the hook grabs on the ridge of the base. This ridge is only 180° and faces outward. Refer to the illustration above.
6. Bottom out the first nut then tighten the next nut to lock the two in place.
7. With the palm of your hand, push the center of the mirror inward to seat the glass.
8. Verify mirror operation.
