Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Pickup
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer
to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the rear evaporative emission (EVAP) purge pipe (2)
at the chassis EVAP purge pipe (3).
- Disconnect the fuel tank
EVAP pipe at the EVAP canister.
- Disconnect the vent valve
pipe (4) at the EVAP canister.
- Remove the EVAP canister
bracket to crossmember mounting bolt.
- Remove the EVAP canister from the vehicle.
- Remove the rear EVAP purge pipe from the EVAP canister and the
retaining clip.
- Remove the EVAP canister from the EVAP canister bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Install the new EVAP canister
to the EVAP canister bracket.
- Install the rear EVAP purge pipe to the EVAP canister and the
retaining clip.
- Install the EVAP canister to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the EVAP canister bracket to crossmember mounting bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Connect the fuel tank
EVAP pipe to the EVAP canister.
- Connect the rear EVAP
purge pipe (2) to the chassis EVAP purge pipe.
- Lower the vehicle.
Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Tahoe/Yukon
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer
to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister mount bolts.
- Disconnect the pipes at
the EVAP canister.
- Disconnect the vent valve
pipe (3) at the EVAP canister bracket.
- Remove the EVAP canister from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the EVAP canister
to the vehicle.
- Connect the vent valve pipe (3) to the EVAP canister bracket.
- Connect the pipes to the
EVAP canister.

canister mounting bolts.

- Lower the vehicle.
Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Suburban
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer

Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the left evaporative emission (EVAP) canister mount bolt.
- Remove the right EVAP
canister mount bolt.
- Disconnect the pipes (1,
2) at the EVAP canister.
- Disconnect the vent valve
pipe (2) at the EVAP canister bracket.
- Remove the EVAP canister from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the EVAP canister
to the vehicle.
- Connect the vent valve pipe (2) to the EVAP canister bracket.
- Connect the pipes (1,
2) to the EVAP canister.
- Install the left EVAP
canister mounting bolt.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or

EVAP canister mounting bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Cab/Chassis
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to
One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
or
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
- Remove the two evaporative
emission (EVAP) canister retaining nuts located in the crossmember.
- Disconnect the three EVAP
system pipes from the EVAP canister.
- Remove the EVAP canister.
- Remove the EVAP canister brackets from the EVAP canister.
Installation Procedure
- Install the EVAP canister brackets to the EVAP canister.
- Position the EVAP canister above the crossmember.
- Connect the three EVAP
system pipes to the EVAP canister.

- Install the EVAP
canister retaining nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the EVAP canister retaining nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the propeller shaft. Refer to
One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
or
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
- Lower the vehicle.
