Stub Shaft Housing Replacement 670 Gear

Disassembly Procedure


    Object Number: 725639  Size: SH

    Important: Replace the housing if the stub shaft housing, seal or bearing are damaged.

  1. Remove the stub shaft housing bolts (4) from the stub shaft housing (3).
  2. Remove the stub shaft housing (3) from the steering gear.
  3. Remove the stub shaft housing O-rings (1) (2) from the steering gear.

Assembly Procedure

  1. Grease the stub shaft seal with the special grease supplied with the new stub shaft housing.
  2. Install the new stub shaft housing O-rings (1, 2).
  3. Install the stub shaft housing (3) onto the steering gear.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the stub shaft housing bolts (4) into the stub shaft housing (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the stub shaft housing bolts to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).

Stub Shaft Housing Replacement 680 Gear

Disassembly Procedure

    Important: Replace the housing if the stub shaft housing, seal or bearing are damaged.

  1. Remove the stub shaft housing bolts (4) from the stub shaft housing (3).
  2. Remove the stub shaft housing (3) from the steering gear.
  3. Remove the stub shaft housing O-rings (1) (2) from the steering gear.

  1. Grease the stub shaft seal with the special grease supplied with the new stub shaft housing.
  2. Install the new stub shaft housing O-rings (1) (2).
  3. Install the stub shaft housing (3) onto the steering gear.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the stub shaft housing bolts (4) into the stub shaft housing (34).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 55.0-70.0 N·m (40.5-51.6 lb ft).
