Battery Positive Cable Replacement 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, and 8.1L

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 662504  Size: SH
  3. unsnap the positive battery cable cap.
  4. Disconnect the positive battery cable.

  5. Object Number: 662502  Size: SH

    Important: The bolt is integral to the battery cable and is not removable.

  6. Loosen the positive cable bolt at the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC).

  8. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.8 L, 5.3 L, and 6.0 L.
  9. Unsnap the junction block cover.
  10. Remove the positive battery cable (1) from the junction block.

  12. If equipped with a 4.8 L, 5.3 L, or 6.0 L engine, remove the negative cable clip from the positive cable clip.
  13. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  15. If equipped with a 8.1 L engine, remove the negative cable clip from the positive cable clip.
  16. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  18. Remove the positive battery cable channel bolt.
  19. Slide the channel pin out of the oil pan tab.
  20. Remove the positive battery cable from the channel.

  22. If equipped with a 4.8 L, 5.3 L, or 6.0 L engine, remove the battery cable bracket bolt and bracket from the power steering pump.

  23. Object Number: 662510  Size: SH
  24. If equipped with a 4.8 L, 5.3 L, or 6.0 L engine, remove the starter lead nut.
  25. Remove the positive cable from the starter.
  26. Remove the positive cable clip from the clip on the oil pan.
  27. Remove the positive cable from the clip on the oil pan.
  28. Remove the positive battery cable.

  30. If equipped with a 8.1 L engine, remove the starter lead nut.
  31. Remove the positive cable from the starter.
  32. Remove the positive cable clip nut.
  33. Remove the positive cable from the engine harness clip.
  34. Remove the positive battery cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 751548  Size: SH
  1. If equipped with a 8.1 L engine, install the positive battery cable.
  2. install the positive cable to the engine harness clip.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the positive cable clip nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable clip nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Install the positive cable to the starter.
  7. Install the starter lead nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the starter lead nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  9. If equipped with a 4.8 L, 5.3 L, or 6.0 L engine, Install the positive battery cable.
  10. Install the positive cable to the clip on the oil pan.
  11. Install the positive cable clip to the clip on the oil pan.
  12. Install the positive cable to the starter.
  13. Install the starter lead nut.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the starter lead nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  15. If equipped with a 4.8 L, 5.3 L, or 6.0 L engine, install the battery cable bracket and bolt.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  17. Install the positive battery cable to the channel.
  18. Slide the channel pin into the oil pan tab.
  19. Install the positive battery cable channel bolt.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable channel bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  21. Lower the vehicle.

  23. If equipped with a 8.1 L engine, install the negative cable clip to the positive cable clip.

  25. If equipped with a 4.8 L, 5.3 L, or 6.0 L engine, install the negative cable clip to the positive cable clip.

  26. Object Number: 662521  Size: SH
  27. Install the positive cable (1) into the junction block.
  28. Snap the junction block cover closed.
  29. If necessary, install the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.8 L, 5.3 L, and 6.0 L.

  30. Object Number: 662502  Size: SH
  31. Tighten the positive cable bolt at the UBEC.
  32. Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable bolt at the UBEC to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  33. Connect the positive battery cable.
  34. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  35. Snap the positive battery cable cap closed.

Battery Positive Cable Replacement 4.3L

Removal Procedure

  4. Disconnect the positive battery cable.

  14. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery channel.
  15. Remove the battery cable channel bolts (1).
  16. Remove the positive battery cable from the channel.

  18. Remove the starter lead nut (9).
  19. Remove the positive cable (1) from the starter.
  20. Remove the positive cable from the clip (7) on the oil pan.
  21. Remove the positive battery cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the positive battery cable.
  2. Install the positive cable to the clip (7) on the oil pan.
  3. Install the positive cable (1) to the starter.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   5. Install the starter lead nut (9).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the starter lead nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the positive cable to the channel.
  8. Install the battery cable channel bolts (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable channel bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  10. Install the negative cable to the battery channel.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Install the battery cable bracket and bolt to the power steering pump.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  15. Install the positive cable (1) to the junction block.
  16. Snap the junction block cover.

  17. Object Number: 662502  Size: SH

    Important: The bolt is integral to the battery cable and is not removable.

  18. Tighten the positive cable bolt at the UBEC.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable bolt at the UBEC to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  20. Connect the positive battery cable.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  22. Snap the positive battery cable cap.

Battery Positive Cable Replacement 6.6L

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal.   3. Disconnect the positive battery cable.

  5. Loosen the positive cable bolt at the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC)

  8. Remove the positive cable (1) from the junction block.

  11. Remove the clip retaining the battery positive cable to the battery negative cable.
  12. Remove the battery cable channel bolts.
  13. Release the tabs on the channel.
  14. Remove the battery cable from the channel.

  16. Remove the battery cable retainer nut and the retainer.
  17. Remove the battery positive cable from the retainer.

  19. Remove the starter solenoid nut.
  20. Remove the battery positive cable from the starter solenoid stud.
  21. Remove the positive battery cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery positive cable to the vehicle.
  2. Install the battery positive cable to the starter solenoid stud.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   4. Install the starter solenoid nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the starter solenoid nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  6. Install the battery positive cable in the retainer.
  7. Install the battery positive cable bracket and nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable retainer nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Install the battery positive cable to the channel.
  10. Install the battery cable channel bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable channel bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Install the negative cable clip to the clip on the positive cable.

  15. Install the positive cable (1) into the junction block.
  16. Snap the junction block cover closed.

  17. Object Number: 662502  Size: SH
  18. Tighten the positive cable bolt at the UBEC.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable bolt at the UBEC to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  20. Connect the positive battery cable.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
