Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Cab/Chassis

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.

  3. Object Number: 669555  Size: SH
  4. Remove the two evaporative emission (EVAP) canister retaining nuts located in the crossmember.

  5. Object Number: 669561  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the three EVAP system pipes from the EVAP canister.
  7. Remove the EVAP canister.
  8. Remove the EVAP canister brackets from the EVAP canister.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the EVAP canister brackets to the EVAP canister.
  2. Position the EVAP canister above the crossmember.

  3. Object Number: 669561  Size: SH
  4. Connect the three EVAP system pipes to the EVAP canister.

  5. Object Number: 669555  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the EVAP canister retaining nuts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the EVAP canister retaining nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Pickup

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 569626  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the rear evaporative emission (EVAP) purge tube (3) from the EVAP pipe (2).

  3. Object Number: 303936  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the fuel tank EVAP tube from the EVAP canister.

  5. Object Number: 385856  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the vent valve tube (4) from the EVAP canister.

  7. Object Number: 303981  Size: SH
  8. Remove the EVAP canister bracket bolt.
  9. Remove the EVAP canister.
  10. Remove the rear EVAP purge tube from the EVAP canister and the clip, if necessary.
  11. Remove the EVAP canister from the bracket, if necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 303981  Size: SH
  1. Install a the EVAP canister to the bracket, if necessary.
  2. Install the rear EVAP purge tube to the EVAP canister and the clip, if necessary.
  3. Install the EVAP canister.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the EVAP canister bracket bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the vent valve tube (4) to the EVAP canister.

  8. Object Number: 303936  Size: SH
  9. Connect the fuel tank EVAP tube to the EVAP canister.

  10. Object Number: 569626  Size: SH
  11. Connect the rear evaporative emission (EVAP) purge tube (3) to the EVAP pipe (2).
  12. Lower the vehicle.
