Diagnostic Aids

The vehicle will not shift into gears sitting still, or has a hard shift effort and the vehicle moves with pedal to the floor.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step inspects for leaks or worn seals on the master cylinder.

  2. This step inspects the clutch actuator for leaks or worn parts.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections.

Inspect for a pedal travel restriction.

Is the vehicle equipped with a aftermarket floor covering?

Go to Step 3

Remove the aftermarket floor covering.

Does the clutch work properly?

Go to Step 12

Inspect the clutch system. Refer to Symptoms - Clutch .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 12

Inspect for air in the clutch hydraulic system. Self bleed the system, and pump the clutch pedal 25 times.

Is there air in the clutch hydraulic system?

Go to Step 6

Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 12

Inspect the master cylinder for worn parts.

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 12

Remove the transmission. Refer to the following:

    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 3500.
    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 4500.
    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - ZF S6 650.

Inspect for a worn or faulty clutch actuator.

Is the clutch actuator worn or damaged?

Go to Step 9

Replace the clutch actuator or release bearing. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Does the clutch work properly?

Go to Step 12

Go to Step 10

  1. Remove the clutch assembly. Refer Clutch Assembly Replacement .
  2. Inspect the clutch assembly for the following:
  3. Damaged or worn clutch driven plate
  4. Binding on the clutch driven plate

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 12

Replace the clutch disc. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

System OK

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
