The driver information center (DIC) consists of a 2 line 16 character vacuum fluorescent (VF) display placed below the compact disc player in the lower console area of the instrument panel. The DIC displays vehicle information and configuration parameters to the driver. Upon power up, The DIC illuminates all segments of the display. The DIC then displays the current driver ID for approximately 2 seconds (Cadillac only) and then the date for 3 seconds. The DIC returns to the last display status present at last power up.
The display parameters are cycled, changed, and acknowledged using six (6) DIC buttons located on the DIC:
• | Trip |
• | Fuel |
• | Menu |
• | On/Off |
• | Reset |
• | Right Arrow |
The DIC major modes for the vehicle information and display parameters are as follows:
• | Trip Mode |
• | Fuel Mode |
• | Menu |
Vehicle information provides feedback to the driver on vehicle performance, mileage, fuel and other related information.
Vehicle information can only be displayed with the ignition ON.
When the English/Metric status changes, any applicable vehicle information data values will also change.
The available DIC Trip Information and data properties are as follows:
Displayed Information | Type of Information | Data Properties |
Personal/Business Trip | Trip Computer On/Off | Reset/Selectable Option |
Personal/Business Trip | Trip Odometer | Reset |
Personal/Business Trip | Trip Fuel Consumption | None |
Personal/Business Trip | Average Fuel Economy | None |
Personal/Business Trip | Average Speed | None |
Elapsed Timer Display | Timer Off/On | Start, Stop, Reset |
Vehicle History | Vehicle History Display Current Day to Last 15 Days | Selectable Option |
Vehicle History | Manual Scroll | None |
Annual Mileage | Annual Mileage | Reset/Selectable Option |
Annual Mileage | Personal Trip - % of Annual | None |
Annual Mileage | Business Trip - % of Annual | None |
Blank Display | Blank Display | None |
The DIC Personal/Business Trip Mode displays five vehicle information parameters in order as listed in the table above. When the Trip button is pressed the first Personal/Business Trip parameter displayed is the Trip Computer On/Off. This feature will turn any Personal/Business parameter (i.e. Trip Odometer, Trip Fuel Consumption, Average Fuel Economy, Average Speed) On or Off. When the Trip Computer On/Off parameter is displayed and the On/Off button is pressed, the status of all other Personal/Business Trip parameters will also change.
Every time any Personal/Business Trip parameter is selected and reset, all other Personal/Business Trip parameter data values are reset. There are two methods for resetting the Personal/Business Trip parameter data values:
This is the total time the Elapsed Timer has been ON since the Elapsed Timer parameter was reset. The DIC On/Off button changes the Elapsed Timer state.
The Elapsed Timer displays as XX (hours) : XX (minutes) : XX (seconds) and is capable of displaying a 00:00:00 to 99:59:59 data value range.
This is the daily maximum speed and mileage of the last 15 days. Previous days' maximum speed and mileage can been seen by pressing the trip button.
The daily maximum speed and mileage can be displayed in either English or Metric units.
The Annual Mileage Log is the total distance travelled since the last Annual Mileage Log reset. The distance travelled is determined by the DIC using the discrete 4 Kppm vehicle speed signal from the PCM. The Personal or Business Trip % of the Annual Mileage represents the total annual personal or business distance travelled.
The Annual Mileage displays a maximum value of 999999.9 in either English or metric units. The Annual Mileage Log does not roll over to zero when maximum value is attained until the Annual Mileage Log is reset.
The Personal or Business Trip % of Annual Mileage displays XXX % of Annual Mileage. The data value range is 0 to 100 and updated after every 1% increase of the data value.
The DIC displays no information when selected from the Trip Mode. If it is the last displayed parameter before exiting the Trip Mode, the Personal Trip Computer On/Off parameter will be the first displayed parameter when re-entering the Trip Mode.
The Fuel Range display is the estimated distance that the vehicle can travel based on current fuel economy, fuel level and fuel capacity conditions. The DIC receives class 2 messages from the PCM indicating the cumulative fuel, fuel level percent and the fuel capacity. The DIC uses the distance information from the 4 Kppm vehicle speed signal from the PCM. The fuel range parameter is displayed in the DIC in one of the following formats:
• | FUEL REMAINING RANGE: LOW MI |
• | FUEL REMAINING RANGE: LOW km |
• | FUEL REMAINING RANGE: ### MI |
• | FUEL REMAINING RANGE: ### km |
The ### represents the calculated fuel range value. When the fuel level is in the low range there are no units displayed. The units of the display are English and metric and the fuel range cannot be reset by the driver.
The Average Fuel Economy (AFE) is calculated from the fuel usage and the distance travelled information from the PCM. The vehicle fuel usage information is transmitted via class 2 to the DIC and the distance travelled is based on 4 Kppm vehicle speed signal from the PCM.
Pressing the Reset button while the Average Fuel Economy is displayed in the DIC will reset the Average Fuel Economy data value currently displayed.
Average Fuel Economy is capable of displaying values from 0.0 to 99.9.
Display appears as:
• | AVG FUEL ECON: ##.# MPG (English) |
• | AVG FUEL ECON: ##.# L/100km (Metric) |
The Instantaneous Fuel Economy is calculated from the fuel usage and the distance travelled information from the PCM. The vehicle fuel usage information is transmitted via class 2 to the DIC and the distance travelled is based on the 4 Kppm vehicle speed signal from the PCM.
Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE) is capable of displaying values from 0 to 99 in whole number increments. The minimum displayed data value for the IFE is 0 MPG (English) and 99 L/100 km (Metric).
Display appears as:
• | INST FUEL ECON: XX MPG (English) |
• | INST FUEL ECON: XX L/100km (Metric) |
Values for the Instantaneous Fuel Economy vary in low speed condition. If the vehicle speed is less than 1.2 mph, the IFE value will display 0 MPG.
The DIC displays no information when selected from the Fuel Mode. If it is the last displayed parameter before exiting the Fuel Mode, the Fuel Range parameter will be displayed first when re-entering the Fuel Mode.
The DIC display and vehicle personalization options are available in the Menu Mode. If the Driver ID parameter is available (Cadillac only), the DIC display and vehicle personalization options can be selected independently for 2 different drivers. The DIC also offers an internal programmable real time clock. The Menu mode has three options:
• | Personalization |
• | Set Day/Date/Time |
• | Blank |
Personalization features may be set for the vehicle or the driver. Vehicle features do not change with each driver. Specific drivers are recognized by the vehicle through the keyless entry transmitters, the memory buttons or the driver information center.
For more information on the Personalization for this vehicle, refer to Personalization Description and Operation in Personalization.
The Set Day/Date/Time initializes and/or resets the Day/Date/Time display using the Reset button. The DIC internally maintains the clock function. The Set Day/Date/Time displays appear in the following order:
Displayed Information | Data Value Options | Data Properties |
Day/Date/Time | None | Reset |
Set Year | 00 - 99 | Reset |
Set Month | Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec | Reset |
Set Day | 1 - 31 | Reset |
Set Hour | 1 - 12 | Reset |
Set Minute | 00 - 59 | Reset |
Set AM/PM | AM or PM | Reset |
Blank Display | None | Reset |
After a battery reconnection, the Day/Date/Time will return to January 1, 1998 12:00 AM
The range of the clock is January 1, 1996 to December 31, 2095.
