Auxiliary Battery Negative Cable Replacement 6.0L and 8.1L Engines

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the auxiliary battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the auxiliary battery cable clips from the studs at the front of dash.
  3. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement

  5. Remove the engine wiring harness/auxiliary negative battery cable bolt.
  6. Remove the auxiliary negative battery cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 662418  Size: SH

    Important: Install the engine wiring harness ground terminal on top of and inboard of the auxiliary negative battery cable ground crimp.

  1. Install the auxiliary negative battery cable.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the engine wiring harness/auxiliary negative battery cable bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  5. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement .

  7. Install the auxiliary battery cable clips to the studs at the front of dash.
  8. Connect the auxiliary battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Auxiliary Battery Negative Cable Replacement 6.6L (LB7) Engine

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the auxiliary battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the auxiliary battery cable clips from the fender wheelhouse inner panel.
  3. Remove the clip for the auxiliary battery cables on the frame.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Remove the auxiliary battery negative cable bolt.

  7. Object Number: 673568  Size: SH
  8. Remove the battery cable retainer nut.
  9. Remove the auxiliary battery cable from the retainer.

  10. Object Number: 674619  Size: SH
  11. Remove the starter lead nut.
  12. Remove the auxiliary battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the auxiliary battery cable to the starter.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the starter lead nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the auxiliary battery cables in the retainer.
  6. Install the battery cable retainer and nut.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  8. Install the auxiliary battery negative cable bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  10. Install the clip for the auxiliary battery cable to the frame.
  11. Install the auxiliary battery cable clips to the fender wheelhouse inner panel.
  12. Connect the auxiliary battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Auxiliary Battery Negative Cable Replacement 6.6L (LLY) Engine

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the auxiliary battery negative cable (2). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Unsnap the positive battery cable cap.
  3. Disconnect the positive battery cable (1).
  4. Remove the auxiliary battery cable clip from the fender wheelhouse inner panel.
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Remove the cable clip bolt (5) at the frame.
  8. Remove the auxiliary battery negative cable bolt (4).
  9. Remove the battery cable retainer nut (6) and the retainer.
  10. Remove the battery positive cable from the retainer.
  11. Remove the positive battery cable nut (7).
  12. Remove the positive battery cable lead (8) from the starter.
  13. Remove the auxiliary battery cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the auxiliary battery cable.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the positive battery cable lead (8) to the starter.
  4. Install the positive battery cable nut (7).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  6. Install the battery positive cable to the retainer.
  7. Install the battery cable retainer nut (6) and the retainer.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Install the auxiliary battery negative cable bolt (4).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  11. Install the cable clip bolt (5) to the frame.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 21 N·m (16 lb ft).

  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Install the auxiliary battery cable clip to the fender wheelhouse inner panel.
  15. Connect the positive battery cable (1).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  17. Snap the positive battery cable cap closed.
  18. Connect the auxiliary battery negative cable (2). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
