Removal Procedure

Important: Clean all the fuel feed/return and evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting the pipes in order to avoid possible fuel/EVAP system contamination.


    Object Number: 583167  Size: SH
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  3. Disconnect the fuel feed/return pipes (4) at the engine pipes (5).
  4. Disconnect the EVAP pipe (1) .
  5. Cap the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipes in order to prevent possible fuel/EVAP system contamination.
  6. Remove the fuel feed/return pipe bracket nut.
  7. Remove the fuel feed/return pipe bracket from the stud.
  8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  9. Object Number: 300385  Size: SH
  10. Remove the fuel feed/return pipe and EVAP pipe clip from the transmission.
  11. If equipped with 4-wheel drive (4WD), remove the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipes from the clip on the transfer case.
  12. Remove the EVAP canister. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement .

  13. Object Number: 878130  Size: SH
  14. Disconnect the fuel feed/return pipes at the fuel tank pipes. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  15. Cap the fuel tank pipes.

  16. Object Number: 878119  Size: SH
  17. Remove the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe clip nuts.
  18. Disconnect the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe clips
  19. Remove the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 878119  Size: SH
  1. Install the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe assembly.
  2. Connect the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe clips
  3. Install the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe clip nuts.

  4. Object Number: 878130  Size: SH
  5. Remove the caps from the fuel tank pipes.
  6. Connect the fuel feed/return pipes at the fuel tank pipes. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  7. Install the EVAP canister. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 300385  Size: SH
  9. If equipped with 4WD, install the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipes to the clip on the transfer case.
  10. Install the fuel feed/return pipe and EVAP pipe clip to the transmission.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Object Number: 583167  Size: SH
  13. Install the fuel feed/return pipe bracket to the stud.
  14. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  15. Install the fuel feed/return pipe bracket nut.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  17. Remove the caps from the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipes.
  18. Connect the EVAP pipe (1) .
  19. Connect the fuel feed/return pipes (4) at the engine pipes (5).
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the fittings to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  21. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  22. Tighten the fuel fill cap.
  23. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  24. Inspect for leaks using the following procedure:
  25. 18.1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
    18.2. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
    18.3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
    18.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
