Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 45910 Fuel Injector Sleeve Remover/Installer


    Object Number: 840171  Size: SH
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the fuel injector(s). Refer to Fuel Injector Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L.
  3. Install J 45910 into the fuel injector sleeve.

  4. Object Number: 840173  Size: SH
  5. Tighten the nut while holding J 45910 .

  6. Object Number: 840176  Size: SH
  7. Install J 45910-2 over J 45910-1, which are both part of kit J 45910 , and add the washer and nut.

  8. Object Number: 840178  Size: SH
  9. Hold J 45910 while turning the nut to remove the fuel injector sleeve.

  10. Object Number: 840182  Size: SH
  11. Remove J 45910 with the fuel injector sleeve.

  12. Object Number: 761232  Size: SH
  13. Remove the O-rings (1).

Installation Procedure

Important: Inspect the seating surface on the fuel injector sleeve and the fuel injector sleeve bore in the cylinder head for debris or damage. If the injector sleeve bore is damaged, the cylinder head may need to be replaced.


    Object Number: 840193  Size: SH
  1. Clean the fuel injector sleeve lower sealing area (1) and the sleeve bore with GM P/N 12377981, (Canadian P/N 10953463), or equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 761232  Size: SH
  3. Lubricate and install NEW O-rings (1) onto the fuel injector sleeve (2).

  4. Object Number: 840187  Size: SH
  5. Install the fuel injector sleeve onto J 45910 .

  6. Object Number: 840193  Size: SH
  7. Apply adhesive GM P/N 12345493, (Canadian P/N 10953488), or equivalent to the fuel injector sleeve lower sealing area (1).

  8. Object Number: 840198  Size: SH
  9. Install the fuel injector sleeve with J 45910 into the cylinder head.

  10. Object Number: 840201  Size: SH
  11. Lightly tap on J 45910 with a hammer to install and seat the fuel injector sleeve.
  12. Remove J 45910 from the fuel injector sleeve.
  13. Install the fuel injector(s). Refer to Fuel Injector Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L.
  14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
