Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side w/oNYS

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  4. For all 15 series vehicles, relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the park brake cable in front of the equalizer and removing the right park brake cable from the equalizer bar.

  5. Object Number: 913335  Size: SH
  6. For 25/35 series vehicles, disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling .
  7. For 25/35 series vehicles, disconnect the cable at the equalizer.

  9. Remove the bolt from the rear axle clip.
  10. Remove the cable from the differential clip.

  11. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  12. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  13. Object Number: 913334  Size: SH
  14. Perform the following procedure to remove the cable (2) from the backing plate (4):
  15. 9.1. Compress the spring (3) by pushing towards the lever (1).
    9.2. Depress the locking tabs.
    9.3. Pull the cable housing out of the backing plate (4).
    9.4. Remove the cable (2) through the slot in the backing plate.
  16. Remove the park brake cable (2) from the lever (1).
  17. Remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cable to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 913334  Size: SH
  3. Install the park brake cable (2) to the lever (1).
  4. Perform the following procedure to install the cable (2) to the backing plate (4):
  5. 3.1. Compress the spring (3) by pushing towards the lever (1).
    3.2. Route the cable (2) through the slot in the backing plate.
    3.3. Push the cable housing into the backing plate (4) until the locking tabs snap into place.

  6. Install the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

  7. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Bolt the cable to the differential (clips).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Important: After installing the cable to the rear axle holding clip, verify that clip is securely retaining the cable. If not, crimp the clip by hand taking care not to pinch or kink the cable.

  10. Install the cable to the differential clip.
  11. For 25/35 series vehicles, connect the cable at the equalizer.

  13. For 25/35 series vehicles, enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling .

  14. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  15. For all 15 series vehicles, pull down on the park brake cable in front of the equalizer and install the left park brake cable to the equalizer bar.
  16. Remove the safety stands.
  17. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
  18. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side w/NYS

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the park brake cable in front of the equalizer and removing the right park brake cable from the equalizer bar.

  5. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  6. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  7. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH
  8. Remove the park brake cable from the differential clip.
  9. Remove the bolt retaining the park brake cable from the rear axle clip.


    Object Number: 791768  Size: SH
  10. Remove the rear brake cable mounting bracket bolt.

  11. Object Number: 791352  Size: SH
  12. Remove the brake cable from the lever.

  13. Object Number: 791822  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cable (2) from the rear brake cable mounting bracket (3) by depressing the locking tabs (1) on the brake cable.

  15. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  16. Remove the brake cable from the guides and the body mounts.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 791822  Size: SH
  1. Install the new brake cable (2) into the rear brake cable mounting bracket (3) by pushing the cable into place until the locking tabs (1) snap into place.

  2. Object Number: 791352  Size: SH
  3. Install the park brake cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 791768  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   5. Install the rear park brake cable bracket bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear park brake cable bracket bolt to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  7. Install the park brake cable to the differential clip.
  8. Install the park brake cable bolt to the rear axle clip.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake cable bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the park brake cable taking care to correctly route the cable though the guides and the body mounts.
  11. Install the park brake cable into the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

  12. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  13. Pull down on the park brake cable in front of the equalizer and install the left park brake cable to the equalizer bar.
  14. Remove the safety stands.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
