Notice: Do not allow the bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. Spinning
the bearings may damage the race and the rollers.
- Mark or tag the bearings in order to ensure they are properly
installed in the same location.
- Clean all the bearing parts in a suitable solvent and air dry.
- Inspect the bearings and journals for roughness and unusual wear
or damage.
- Inspect the mainshaft bearing bushings for wear.
- Inspect the mainshaft speed gear bearings for wear.
- Inspect the bearing race in the input shaft for wear.
- Inspect the shift rail bearings for wear or missing balls.
- Inspect the thrust washers and spacer washers for wear or damage,
- Replace the parts that show signs of excessive wear.
- Do not file surfaces which have been hardened and precision ground.
- Replace worn or damaged bearings.
- Replace both the bearing race and the bearing when only one part
is damaged.
- Replace the bearing bushing, bearing, and speed gear if one part
is worn or failed.
- Lubricate the bearings with transmission fluid before assembly.
