Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.
  3. Remove the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement .
  4. Remove the fuel tank for left side applications. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
    5. •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 4.3L engine
    •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines
    •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine
    •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 8.1L engine

  5. Remove the U-bolt nuts.
  6. Remove the U-bolts.
  7. Remove the spring spacer.
  8. Remove the anchor plate.

  9. Remove the rear spring hanger bracket nut and bolt.

    10. Object Number: 361767 Size: SH
  10. Remove the front spring bracket bolt.
  11. Remove the leaf spring assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 361767 Size: SH
  1. Install the leaf spring assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Install the front spring hanger bracket bolt.
  3. Install the front spring hanger bracket nut.

    4. Object Number: 361791 Size: SH
  4. Install the rear spring hanger bracket bolt.
  5. Install the rear spring hanger bracket nut.

    6. Object Number: 348393 Size: SH

    Important: Do not reuse the U-bolts.

  6. Install the spring spacer.
  7. Install the U-bolts.
  8. Install the anchor plate.

    9. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  9. Install the U-bolt nuts.

    10. Tighten

        • For 15 series without rear wheel steering, tighten the U-bolt nuts to 72 N·m (53 lb ft).
        • For all 15 series with rear wheel steering and 15HD/25/35/36 series, tighten the U-bolt nuts to 150 N·m (110 lb ft).
        • Tighten the front hanger bracket nut to 150 N·m (110 lb ft).
        • Tighten the rear hanger bracket nut to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
  10. Install the fuel tank for left side applications. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
    11. •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 4.3L engine
    •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines
    •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine
    •  Fuel Tank Replacement for the 8.1L engine
  11. Install the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement .
  12. Remove the rear axle support.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
