- Remove 4 bolts (1).
- Remove 12 bolts (2).
- Disengage the low and reverse clutch housing (1) from main housing locating pin (4) and pawl support pin (5).
- Remove the low and reverse clutch housing (1).
- Remove and discard the gasket (2).
- Remove, as a unit, the output shaft (2) and the output carrier assembly (1).
- Remove the output shaft (2) from the output carrier assembly (1).
- Remove the output sun gear (4).
- Remove the thrust bearing (3) from the output shaft (2) or the output sun gear (4).
Notice: Refer to Torque Converter Housing/Low and Reverse Clutch Housing Bolt Size Notice in the Preface section.
Important: Remove the low and reverse clutch housing - 4WD using the same procedure as when removing a low and reverse clutch housing - 2WD.
Notice: To help avoid damaging the park pawl return spring, make sure the park pawl support pin is not retained in and removed with the low and reverse clutch housing.
Caution: Always remove or install the output carrier assembly by holding onto the output shaft. Holding onto the output carrier assembly instead of the output shaft may allow the output shaft to fall causing personal injury and/or property damage.
Important: The thrust bearing assembly may stick to the output shaft or the output sun gear.
Park Pawl Removal
- Disengage the park pawl return spring (2) from the transmission case (4).
- Remove, as a unit, the park pawl (1) and the park pawl return spring (2) from the park pawl support pin (3).
- Remove the park pawl return spring from the park pawl.
- Remove the park pawl support pin (2) from the transmission case.
- If present, remove the park pawl cam guide (3).
- Remove the low and reverse clutch piston return spring assembly (1).
