J 43911 Manual Shift Shaft
Seal Remover
Important: Do not remove the manual shift shaft unless
replacing one or more of the following:
• | Manual shift shaft detent lever |
- Position the transmission so that the valve body face of the transmission case
is facing up.
- Remove the screw (3) from the body of J 43911
(2).
- Screw the body of J 43911
into selector shaft seal (1).
- Install the screw (3) into the body of J 43911
(2).
- Tighten the screw (3) against the manual shift shaft until the
manual shift shaft seal (1) becomes dislodged.
- Remove the manual shift shaft seal (1) from J 43911
(2).
- While holding the flats of the manual shift
shaft (1), loosen the manual shift shaft nut (2) so that the nut slides
freely on the manual shift shaft.
- Remove the manual shift shaft detent lever (2) from the flats
of the manual shift shaft (1).
Notice: DO NOT mar the transmission case surface around the
spherical pin when removing or installing the spherical pin. An unmarred surface is required to maintain the seal between the control valve assembly and the transmission case.
- Place a protective plate (2) on the transmission case surface around
the spherical tip pin (3).
Notice: DO NOT twist the spherical pin when removing the
pin from the transmission case. Damage to the transmission case can occur.
- Remove the spherical tip pin (3) from the transmission case.
Important: Burrs or raised metal where the manual shift
shaft detent lever seats against the manual shift shaft may prevent the manual shift
shaft from sliding from the transmission case. Use a file to remove burrs or raised
metal from the manual shift shaft.
- While holding the manual shift shaft detent lever (3) and nut (4),
carefully slide the manual shift shaft (1) through the following.
• | Manual shift shaft nut (4) |
• | Manual shift shaft detent lever (3) |
• | Manual shift shaft seal hole (2) |
- Remove the manual shift shaft nut (4), manual shift shaft detent
lever (3), and the park pawl assembly (5) from the transmission case.
- Rotate the park pawl assembly (1)
180 degrees.
- Remove the nib of the park pawl assembly through the keyhole in the manual
shift shaft detent lever (2).
