Subject: | New Rear Leaf Spring |
Models: | 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 |
2006 GMC Sierra 3500 |
Without RPO R05 |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Owners may comment that the rear leaf spring helper and frame bracket is missing.
Full Size 3500 series trucks built after the August time frame will no longer have the frame mounted leaf spring snubber and bracket or the additional helper spring mounted on top of the leaf spring pack . These changes were made in order to achieve a smoother ride along with the elimination of the previous rear leaf spring slap noise. Replacing the previous components is a completely new multi-stage rear spring assembly, which has been specifically tuned in order to optimize ride, handling and trailering capabilities of the 3500 series vehicles. The new rear leaf spring assembly maintains the same D-height as the previous set-up and has been coupled with a new shock absorber package as well as a new front stabilizer bar to maintain roll stiffness balance.
The only vehicles that will still be released with the previous style rear suspension will be the 3500 series with dual rear wheel RPO R05, for which the additional spring and snubber have also been re-designed to reduce spring noise.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
