Service VME - Hard Folding Tonneau Cover Will Not Open - keywords bed body hard top

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A concern has been identified with the functionality of the GM Accessories Hard Folding Tonneau Cover, P/N 12498863, once installed on 2004-2006 Crew Cab models of the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado.

The issue relates to interference between the lock rod catch posts and the factory-installed bed rail protectors.

In order to accommodate for build and installation variation of the plant-installed bed rail protectors, modified catch posts are currently available through the SPO Call Center. These modified catch posts are chamfered at the outboard point and will allow for additional clearance when opening the front or rear tonneau cover panels with the locking mechanism in the disengaged position. A photo illustrates the additional clearance obtained with the modified catch posts in place.

If an interference with the plant-installed bed rail protectors is identified, contact the SPAC Department at the SPO Call Center (800-433-6961) and request to speak with an RPA representative to obtain a modified catch post service pack (quantity of 4).

These service packs will be included in all near-future shipments of these Hard Folding Tonneau Cover Kits, where as a long-term fix is being implemented to increase the travel of the lock rod assembly when the key is rotated in these covers.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
