Subject: | Updated Calibration for Diesel Engines Equipped with a 6 Speed Manual Transmission, Possible Engine Start with the Key in Accessory Position |
Models: | 2006 Chevrolet Kodiak, Silverado |
2006 GMC Sierra, TopKick |
Equipped with the 6.6 Diesel Engine and the 6 speed Manual Transmission |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A 2006 diesel engine with the 6 speed manual transmission may start with the key in the accessory position.
If the ECM detects an engine speed of 50 RPM and the ignition switch is in the accessory position, the engine may start.
This may occur if the vehicle is in gear, the key is in the accessory position, and the vehicle moves enough to induce an engine speed of at least 50 RPM.
A new calibration to address the unwanted start was released on 2/13/06 with TIS software update 2.5.
Please check these vehicles for current calibrations, and reprogram the ECM on any vehicles that do not have the updated calibration.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
