Subject: | Squeal Noise From Parking Brake |

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some owners may comment on a squeal noise from the parking brake while driving. In some cases, it may be found the noise is from the parking brake shoes not returning completely and contacting the drum-in-hat.
To correct this concern, new parking brake cables with a stronger return spring are available. These new cables should only be used with the new design parking brake assembly. The new design parking brake assembly was implemented into productions on January 23, 2006. To verify the vehicle is equipped with the new design check the following items in the picture below. If it is found to be the new design replace both left and right park brake cables with updated part numbers listed below.
Important: If the drum-in-hat surface was previously machined (turned) to try and correct this noise the rear rotors should be replaced.
