VITON ACCELERATOR PUMPS USAGE SERVICE REPLACEMENT ONLY

MODELS: 1976-1983 DUAL AND QUADRAJET CARBURETORS VITON ACCELERATOR PUMPS

Viton accelerator pumps are now available for service from WDDGM for correcting conditions of driveability and tip-in-hesitation when a customer is using a high aromatic fuel, gasohol or has dry-out conditions stemming from long periods of non-operation.

Two (2) types of viton accelerator pumps are released and must be used in the correct float bowl assembly.

Float bowl assemblies that have the letters "MW" (machined well) embossed next to the throttle position sensor electrical connector use the red lip (with garter spring) viton accelerator pump ONLY. See Figure No. 1.

If the letters "MW" are not on the float bowl assembly, a blue, thin lip viton accelerator pump can be used as indicated on the accelerator pump part number conversion chart.

Viton service replacement pumps are identified as H.D. (Heavy Duty) in the parts book and are shown in Figure No. 2.

Dual and Quadrajet pump part numbers and applications are as follows:

Red lip (With Machined Well Garter Spring) Only (MW) 17072978

Blue, Thin Lip Non-Machined See Part Number Well Only Conversion Chart

To use the chart, locate the original service part number accelerator pump, for the correct engine application, in the parts catalog. Then cross refer- ence the original service pump number with the viton pump number as shown in the chart.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
