General Motors has determined that some 1983 G-35 Vans were shipped from the Scarborough Assembly Plant with incorrect wheel wrenches. These wrenches will not fit the wheel lug nuts. The wrench would prevent removal of the wheel and tire.
Dealers are to check the wheel wrench. If the wrench is incorrect, replace it with the correct wrench.
To minimize inconvenience, the owner letter advised all owners they may check the wrench fit themselves. They were also advised they may elect to have their dealer check and replace the wrench at no charge.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE
Procedures covering this campaign are outlined in Section V of your dealership's "GMC Truck Claims Processing Manual" issued October, 1981.
Dear GMC Truck Owner:
General Motors has determined that some 1983 G-35 Vans were shipped from the assembly plant with incorrect wheel wrenches. These wrenches will not fit the wheel lug nuts on your van, preventing removal of the wheel and tire.
To correct this condition, your GMC Truck Dealer will check the wheel wrench. If your van has the wrong wrench, the dealer will give you a new one at no charge. If you wish, you may check the wrench yourself. Remove it from the storage area and try it on a wheel nut. If the wheel wrench does not fit properly, and would not remove the wheel nuts, please contact your GMC Truck Dealer.
Your dealer has received instructions regarding this modification. If you need a new wrench, or if you have checked the wrench and are not sure it is correct, please contact your dealer to arrange a service date. The labor time required to have the dealer check and replace the wrench is about 15 minutes. This service will be performed at no charge. Please allow additional time for the dealer to process your vehicle.
If you check the wrench and the fit is correct, please tell us by completing and returning the enclosed postage paid pre-addressed card. This will assist us in ensuring that all affected vehicles have been checked.
The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of the card to your dealer will assist in correcting your van in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded the vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid Owner Reply Card and returning it to us.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products. We appreciate your assistance.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
