ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT FAILURE - REPLACEMENTS. GMC Truck GMC G Van 1985

MODELS: 1985 C, K, G, AND P 1500-3500 MODELS AND CABALLEROS WITH 90 DEGREE V6-V8 (4.3L, 5.0L, AND 5.7L) ENGINES

Some 1985 C, K, G, P, and Caballero models equipped with 90 degree V6-V8 engines may experience alternator drive belt slippage and/or belt failure. On most vehicles, this condition can be corrected with proper belt usage and tensioning procedures. These procedures can be found in Section 6B, Engine Cooling, of the light Duty Truck Service Manual. In cases of repeated alternator drive belt failures, the following parts can be used to modify the vehicle to use a five rib Poly-Vee belt. These parts can be substituted for the original V-Belt configuration. The belt tension adjustment for the five rib Poly-Vee belt is 600 N (135 ft. lbs.). Use belt tension gauge BT-33-97-M.

Labor time to perform this procedure is .7 hour (add .1 hour with A/C), including belt and pulley replacement.
