1987 'G' Vans Built at Scarborough
General Motors of Canada has determined that certain 1987 'G' Vans fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 301, "Fuel System Integrity." These vehicles were assembled with fuel tank lower filler pipes which might have small holes at some spot welds used to attach a mounting bracket. These small holes could allow fuel to leak from the pipe during situations such as refuelling and turning maneuvers. In the event of a collision impact, a leaky filler pipe could allow fuel spillage in excess of the amount prescribed by FMVSS 301. Fuel spillage during and after a collision could result in a fire.
The subject 1987 'G' Vans were all built with either a 125 inch or 146 inch wheelbase and assembled at the Scarborough Plant. To correct this noncompliance, GMC Dealers are to replace the fuel tank lower filler pipe on each involved vehicle. This service is to be completed for owners at no charge.
Involved are certain 1987 G-Vans with 125" and 146" wheelbases built at Scarborough within the following VIN breakpoints:

Technical Services Department General Motors of Canada Limited
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
