LEAF SPRING U-BOLT ANCHOR PLATE CONTACTS JOUNCE

SUBJECT: LEAF SPRING U-BOLT ANCHOR PLATE CONTACTS JOUNCE BUMPER BRACKET ON SIDE RAIL (INSTALL NEW U-BOLTS AND ANCHOR PLATE)

MODELS: 1995 CHEVROLET G3 VANS BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT SF175169 1995 GMC TRUCK G3 VANS BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT SF529744 WITH 3.73 RATIO AXLE (RPO GT4)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. THIS NOISE MAY BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE REAR LEAF SPRING U-BOLT ANCHOR PLATE CONTACTING THE JOUNCE BUMPER BRACKET LOCATED ON THE FRAME RAIL.

CAUSE:

BUILD VARIATION AND TOLERANCE STACK-UPS BETWEEN THE ANCHOR PLATE AND JOUNCE BUMPER BRACKET CLEARANCES, CAUSING A METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT POINT.

CORRECTION:

INSTALL A CURRENT SET OF U-BOLTS AND ANCHOR PLATE (CURRENTLY USED ON G3 VAN MODELS WITH 4.56 RATIO AXLES RPO HC4). THE INSTALLATION OF THIS SET OF HARDWARE WILL BE REVERSED FROM THE CURRENT HARDWARE; I.E. THE ANCHOR PLATE WILL BE LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE AXLE ASSEMBLY, U-BOLTS FACING DOWNWARD (FIGURE 1). #1: CURRENT CONFIGURATION #2: NEW CONFIGURATION

REFERENCE SECTION 3D IN THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR PROPER REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES. TORQUE NUTS TO 205 N.M (151 LBS FT).
