  1. Place the transmission in PARK.
  2. Connect the voltmeter from the PPL (6) wire at the Starter Solenoid Terminal S to the engine ground.
  3. Place the ignition switch in the Start position and measure the voltage.

Does battery voltage exist?

  1. Clean the starter motor mounting bolts, starter motor, and mounting surface.
  2. Repeat the test.

Is the starter motor still bad?

Go to Step 3

System OK

Replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement , Starter Motor Replacement , or Starter Motor Replacement .

Was the replacement successful?

System OK

  1. Remove the starter relay from the Under Hood Fuse Relay socket.
  2. Using a test lamp, check for voltage at the starter relay socket cavity A6 to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 6

  1. Locate and repair open in the RED (242) wire between IGN-A fuse and the starter relay.
  2. Install the starter relay.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Disconnect the PPL (6) wire from the starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. Using a self-powered test lamp, check for continuity between the starter relay socket cavity B4 to the starter solenoid end of the PPL (6) wire.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 8

  1. Locate and repair open in PPL (6) wire between the starter relay and the starter solenoid.
  2. Install the starter relay.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Connect the PPL (6) wire at the starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. Using a self-powered test lamp, check for the continuity between the starter relay socket cavity A4 to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 10

  1. Locate and repair open in BLK (150) wire between starter relay and ground G103.
  2. Install the starter relay.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Place the transmission in PARK.
  2. Connect the unpowered test lamp from the starter relay socket cavity B6 to ground.
  3. Place the ignition switch in the START position.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Replace the starter relay.

  1. Disconnect Connector C1 at the Park/Neutral Position Switch.
  2. Connect a self powered test lamp between the Park/Neutral Position Switch pins E and G for connector C1.
  3. Place the transmission in PARK.

Does the test lamp light?

Replace the Park/Neutral Position Switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Place the Transmission in NEUTRAL and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect a self-powered test lamp between Park/Neutral Position Switch connector C1 cavity G and the starter relay connector cavity B6.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair the open in the YEL (1737) wire between the Park/Neutral Position Switch and the Starter Relay.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Disconnect Connector C200 at the steering column.
  2. Connect an unpowered test lamp between Connector C200 Cavity D5 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 19

Locate and repair the open in RED (242) wire between the IGN A Fuse and Connector C200.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Connect a self-powered test lamp between Connector C200 Pin D1 and Park/Neutral Position Switch Connector C1 Cavity E.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 20

Locate and repair the open in the RED (1440) wire or YEL (5) wire in the steering column. If the wires are good, replace the Ignition Switch.

Are the repairs complete?

Locate and repair the open in the YEL (5) wire between Connector C200 and the Park/Neutral Switch.
