DEFINITION: Battery indicator never lights.

  1. Ensure that the battery is charged.
  2. Disconnect the BRN (25) wire connector at the generator.
  3. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  4. Connect a fused jumper wire between the generator connector Cavity B (W/100 Amp Generator) or Cavity L (W/124 Amp Generator).

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Check that the generator mechanical grounding is good.
  2. If the generator is mechanically grounded, replace the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.

  1. Disconnect the connector the instrument cluster.
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp between the instrument cluster connector Cavity B16 and the generator connector Cavity B (W/100 Amp generator) or Cavity L (W/124 Amp generator).

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 4

  1. Check for open filament in the battery indicator lamp.
  2. If the filament is good, replace the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Locate and repair the open in the BRN (25) wire between the instrument panel and the generator.
