MANUAL HUBLOCKS PARTS AND INSTALLATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1969 - 1984 K-1, 2, 3 Models

In order to convert from automatic hub locks to manual locking hubs, the following information is being provided for proper model and parts applications of the manual hublocks:

Models: K1, K2

Hublock: WDDCM P/N 2234835 Black & Brass (hub conversion kit, includes 2 hubs) GM P/N 14070372 Black (1 hub only) GM P/N 15521882 Bright (1 hub only)

Note: With P/N 14070372 and P/N 15521882 hub assemblies, six capscrews, P/N 14070350, and 1 each of P/N 14070348 (hub snap ring) and P/N 274932 (shaft snap ring) are required for proper installation.

Applications: 1969-1972 K1* 1973-1980 K1 with NP205 transfer case (part-time) and manual transmission. 1977-1980 K2 with NP205 transfer case (part-time)** and manual transmission. 1981-1984 K1, K2***

Model: K3

Hublock: P/N 14070373 Black (1 hub only) P/N 15521883 Bright (1 hub only)

Note: With each P/N 14070373 and P/N 15521883 hub assembly, 6 capscrews, P/N 14070350, and 1 each of P/N 14070396 (hub snap ring) and P/N 464141 (shaft snap ring) are required for proper installation.

Applications: 1975-1978 K3 No manual hublocks available. 1979-1984 K3 with NP205 transfer case (part-time)** and manual transmission.

*K2 models for 1969-1976 use a flange mount hub; the above manual hubs cannot be installed on such vehicles.

**Trucks equipped with automatic transmission and transfer case NP203 (full-time) require a transfer case kit, P/N 12300641, for proper operation.

***1981-1984 K1 and K2 trucks require new axle shafts, P/N 458887 or 15521884, for proper installation (these are interchangeable for this application). Failure to install new axle shafts could result in reduced bearing and/or hub life.

Installation - Refer to Figure No. 1. K1 and K2 models for 1981-1984 require the above mentioned axle shafts for proper installation of the hublocks. The axle shaft has an outer groove for the shaft snap ring. This snap ring MUST be installed to prevent premature wear of the axle shaft universal joint and/or axle shaft breakage as a result of the joint not being held in relation to the pivot axis of the steering knuckle. As indicated in Figure No. 1, the outer snap ring groove is standard for 1985 K1 and K2 models.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
