END OF EXCHANGE PROGRAM INFORMATION

MODELS: 1988 C/K MODELS EQUIPPED WITH HM-290 4-SPEED (RPO MCO) AND 5-SPEED (RPO MG5) MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS

BULLETIN COVERS: (FIGURE NO.1) --------------- The exchange program currently in effect for the HM-290 series manual transmissions is scheduled to end December 31, 1987. After this date, dealerships will be required to overhaul the transmissions. Dealerships will be able to overhaul both these units before the exchange programs are over, once all five items listed under Service Action are completed.

SERVICE ACTION:

1. Product Service Training:

HM-290 - Course number 17003.11 (2 day class)

Note: Videotape overhaul "refresher" will be available from Kent-Moore mid-November, 1987.

2. Essential Service Tools:

All remaining essential tools will be shipped from Kent-Moore in late October, 1987.

Important: A small (toaster) oven is required to service both units but is not listed as an essential tool. The oven is used to prevent part damage during assembly. Dealerships should obtain an oven before servicing these units.

3. Service Parts:

All service parts and overhaul kits will be available through GM Service Parts Operations (SPO) after mid-November, 1987.

4. Labor Time Guide:

HM-290 - The HM-290 Labor Time Guide will be issued in a bulletin late October, 1987.

5. Service Manuals:

HM-290 - The 1988 C/K Truck Unit Repair Manual will be at dealerships in late October, 1987.
